     Rivers We Fish...

Missouri River near Craig Montana

 Jefferson River
Formed in Twin Bridges by the confluence of the Big Hole, Beaverhead, and Ruby Rivers, the Jefferson flows Northbound over eighty miles to the confluence of the Madison and Gallatin Rivers to form the Headwaters of the Missouri. Due to being heavily dewatered by irragators, there was a time when it was not worth fishing the Jeff.  Fortunately, people who cared about great rivers and fish stepped up to bring this "true blue Southwestern Montana gem" back to life.  Low angling pressure, spectacular scenery and a trout population that is increasing every year.  What more could you want in a Montana fly fishing experience?  This river is a "must fish" if visiting the area.

Gallatin
Originating in the Northwest corner of Yellowstone National park, the Gallatin flows Northwest approximately 120 miles. This is a true classic! With healthy aquatic life, good populations of trout and breathtaking beauty, this freestone river is history to be fished. Throughout it's length, fishing opportunities are abound. From gentle meandering meadow fishing in the upper reaches to bouncy pocket water in the canyon stretch, the Gallatin has something for every angler.

 Madison River
The quintessential fly fishing river!  This is classic BIG river fishing at its finest. Originating in the Northwest corner of Yellowstone National Park and then flowing North for 180 miles, this historic river nestled in beautiful Madison valley will leave you speechless. We divide the river into two sections; what's known as the upper and lower rivers. With prolific insect hatches on both sections and picture-worthy browns and rainbows to be caught, you're sure to fall in love with this one.

 Missouri River
Known for its exceptional dry fly fishing, the Missouri River is a destination that anglers hold close to their hearts. A tailwater by definition and the world's largest spring creek by appearances, the Mighty Mo is an anglers dream.  Prolific hatches of caddis, blue wing olives, tricos, and pale morning duns provide the Missouri's wild trout with the nutrition necessary to become quite large and strong! Rainbow and Brown trout average between 15" - 17", but many grow to the 22"+ class. There are lots of them - over 4,000 per mile. Casting tiny dry flies to large wild trout is the creme de la creme of fly fishing - It's what the Missouri is all about.

 Yellowstone River
The longest free-flowing river in the lower 48 — 678 miles of uninterrupted water from its source to its confluence with the Missouri. This large river gives us an array of different angling opportunities. From dry fly fishing up high to pitching big streamers on the lower river, there is something for everyone. Browns, Rainbows, Cutthroats, Ospreys and Eagles are only a few of the Yellowstone's inhabitants. With towering mountain peaks as a backdrop and spectacular Paradise valley as a host, this is truly an enjoyable way to spend a day float fishing.

*While much of our time is concentrated on our core rivers, CK Outfitters' guides have other favorites not mentioned and often times only mentioned in a whisper. Whether it is fishing a private spring creek in Paradise valley or fishing a little sneak on a tiny tailwater, our guides will mix up the venues to offer you a well-rounded experience.
